How to Create Free Pallet Racking Workbenches

Before you throw out your old shelving and pallet racking you should consider a retirement life for it, especially if you are on tight budgets. Pallet rack frames can easily handle up to 10 tonnes with two bolt fixings in the feet and the beams are designed to hold between 2,000 and 3,000 kgs. Generally a 2 tonne beam is about 100mm high and heavier versions are anything up to 140mm, Pallet bearers can be used to provide extra strength for point loading on worktops and those redundant pallets will have salvagable timbers to make a very solid worktop. So, a pallet bay capable of holding up to 6000 kgs. with ease will have no problem taking 2 tonnes uniformly distributed. The rear legs can be extended up to produce work backs for shelves and louvred panels, lighting rails and tool bars and undershelves are a simple obvious addition. For despatch benches and sorting operations for low budget work they are a god send. They are a fairly cheap alternative from new as smart heavy duty workbenches.
Above are some simple design options constructed around 2.7m x 900mm deep pallet racking. An ideal height would range from 700mm for a packing bench up to 900mm for other operations.
